good, 5/3/2017

pofunk from

I have found my boys love this food, especially my youngest. Scampers will bury his face in the bowl and dig out just these pieces to eat them. Scrat and squire just chow down. I do add it to a mix of food, as I prefer to keep them from being too selective.

Great food, 3/6/2017

xfairyofnightx from

I have had many ferrets over the years and this is the one food that all of them enjoy eating. While most ferret foods are exorbitantly in local stores, ferret.com keeps it reasonable. High nutrition, great taste, and happy ferrets is why I keep buying.

The best food to reduce smell, 2/5/2017

sprice from

I did a bunch of research trying to find a food that would reduce my babies smell and also be good for them. I am so glad I found this food, it is seriously the best. 3 ferrets and you cannot smell them in my house at all. Even their room doesn't smell like ferret. I had planned to combine this with a water deodorizer but I didn't have to because it worked so well. I have had many people come over and be shocked that I had 3 ferrets because there was no scent. Cannot recommend enough.

Shepard and Greene Premium Ferret Food - Excellent Product, 1/19/2016

WhiskeyGirly from California, USA

I highly recommend this product. The protein to fat ratio is better than most commercial foods on the market and my ferrets love the taste! I currently own 4 ferrets ranging in age from 4 months old to 7 years old. I owned 4 ferrets prior to that. All of my pets ate Shepard & Greene and Marshall's food. The first ingredient listed is chicken meal, which is better than other foods that list a filler as the primary ingredient.

Sheppard Greene Is Great, 5/7/2015

WelshWeasel from New Mexico, USA

My little fuzzies love this food. The pieces are small enough for them to manage without getting stuck behind their teeth as some other foods for ferrets do and they love the flavor. It is hard to find in my area, so I am so pleased that Ferret.com carries this product. It has my total recommendation as a great ferret food.

Great service Great product, 4/20/2015

ShepherdYum from Warrenton, VA, USA

Fast service we received this in a couple days. Our older ferret was starting to not eat and then we remembered that this was his favorite food before we got a cheaper brand. He is eating and gaining his old weight back. We will stick with this from now on. Fast service Thank you! KM

All three ferrets LOVE it!, 10/23/2014

AmyB from

This was the first time I have ordered this brand of food for our ferrets. As soon as I put it in their food dishes they woke up, came out & started eating. They usually aren't that interested or excited about dry food, only treats or ferretvite paste. They absolutely LOVE love love this. I'm constantly refilling their bowls. Their coats look shinier and our eldest has gotten more energetic and feisty since she's been eating this food. We will be sticking with this brand. So glad I let them try it :)

Seriously great food, 9/3/2013

bluemoon72 from St. Cloud, MN

Our five ferrets are thriving on this food. We were feeding them the 8-in-1 high protein (45%) variety until I decided to order this on a whim online to fill out my cart. WOW, what a difference! They went from normal/skinny ferrets who liked to play, to thick, fat, healthy, silky, high-energy ferrets who love to run, jump, wrestle, and leap. They went from looking like the normal pet-store ferrets to show-quality, magazine centerfolds. And they seem so happy on it! They love the taste (although my oldest boy, age 4, still munches on my dog's BilJac). The 8-in-1 had kept their poo odor down, so I haven't seen a marked improvement in that (but good god when I brought each of them home and they'd been eating the pet store's Marshalls, whoa, now that's some stink). I will never switch food, as long as I can keep getting it online from Ferret.com!

Very good food, 7/24/2013

7business from Blackfoot, ID 83221, USA

This product has helped improve the oder in our home. It helps reduce the amount of waste the ferrets make. This really helps with cage cleaning. We have 7 in the business. The ferrets love the taste. They will not eat any other food. The ferrets eat a lot less with this food. One bag lasts about 3 weeks with seven ferrets.

Sherrie from Portsmouth, Va.

First off I want to thank everyones reveiws. It helped a lot. My two ferrets were raised on a type of ferret food that they loved. Now they changed the ingredients in it and it does not smell to good. They would barely eat it. Then I looked on here saw these wonderful reveiws for this food! When I gave it to them they LOVE IT! I am one happy mommie :) Thank you again for a wonderful product and great customers.

My ferrets' favorite!!!, 9/1/2011

Mother of 2 (ferrets) from Eastern NC

Being that my ferrets are extremely picky eaters (and I've heard that most are) I find it hard to find dry food they will eat. I have found 3 they will tolerate, and I have witnessed them actually picking this food out of the other two foods! One of my ferrets will not eat out of the bowl, so he digs out what he is going to eat. As soon as my other lazy ferret hears the recognizable sound of the food hitting the floor, he comes running. This is the first food they both pick out! Then they leave the other two laying around until they have no other choice but to eat it ;) Nutritionally, it seems to have everything that ferrets require in their diet as well. Lastly, it is true what everyone says about this food helping to diminish cage odor. I don't know how it works, but it does! I definitely recommend this food to other fur-butts :)

The Best Food, 8/10/2010

Greg from Butte, Montana

We have 8 woozies, all of whom are rescues. They were mostly fed cat food when we got them. After trying Marshalls and Zupreem, we have returned to the S&G. They all love it, have soft, full coats and lots of energy. I only wish I could get it in bulk, we go through 4 to 6 bags a month.

Lots of Ferrets..., 2/16/2010

Greg from Butte, Mt

We have 8 furbies: 3 females and 5 males. All of our little ones love this food and seem to be doing very well on it after about 3 months. Our littlest female, who had ulcers, eats this food and has rebounded, gained weight and has a nice, soft coat. All of them have good energy, eat it well, and have thick, soft coats. Litter smell is down compared to Marshalls and Zupreem. Only wish we could get larger quantities, I have to order 3-4 bags at a time.

Best kibble food for my gang of 7, 7/19/2009

Raymond from Pembroke Pines, FL

I had all of my gang on this kibble and never took them off of it. They hardly got sick, and when they did it was for short time. They have great fur, skin, bright eyes, strong, healty muscles and a general healthly look. Also minimal if any hairballs. Had them on Marshalls for a bit since our local pet store stop carrying it and they did not touch it with a 10 foot poll. Put the Marshalls and tried the other big boys in thier cage and they looked at me with a curious look. They had to eat it for a bit and then they started to get the "ferret smell" in their poo, pee and fur. Drove about 20 miles to stock up on Sheppard Greene, yes, it was a bit on cash, but you know what . . . their were happier and the "ferret smell" was at a minimum, har could tell we had our gang. Our Ver Dr Adamson was amazed how this kibble Sheppard Greene makes a diffrence in the wellness of the gang of 7, or as we call them the Magnicifent 7.

Best thing since slice bread..., 6/30/2009

Marcy Orton from Gilbert, AZ

I had no choice but to feed my fuzzies Marshalls ferret food when I got them from the pet store. They did ok with it but I had to purchase Bio Odor to add to their food to help keep the ordor down. Once I started using Shepard Green I found I no longer needed to buy Bio Ordor and my ferrets love it! I started with two ended up with seven...and now adopted three more from a family that had to move. The new additions had no problem switching over and their coats are now soft and fluffy. One was missing hair and that has now grown back. Oh on two of the new additions are not decented and they do not smell anything like they use too. I recommend this food over anything I have tried!

For Happy Ferrets Feed Sheppard & Greene, 3/18/2009

Angelina from Bakersfield, CA

All three of my fuzzys love this food. Their potty box oder has decreased and they have more energy. When I was feeding them another brand they were smelly and sluggish. Your fuzzys will gobble this stuff up so keep a couple bags on hand. Worth every penny.

I love this food, 2/17/2009

ashley from minneapolis,mn

I have been using this ferret food for about two years now and i don't think i will ever switch. I have a little sensitive girl who was experiencing lots of hair loss and looked very malnourished when i adopted her. Within the first month of using this food her hair grew back and she gained weight. For years she's been as happy as can be and stable with her weight and hair, and i love this food!

Yummy I'm Guessing, 7/4/2008

opackfan from Toms River, NJ

I purchased this food because of the praise i've read about it on this site and another site, I can't speak for my 6 week old Jimmy Norton but as I type this he is eating it now as I speak, I caught him on the top level of his cage just now, his lil ferret cries woke me up, so I moved him to the bottom level of his cage and he immediately went for the food. I guess he likes it. If your ferret is a lil baby it's a good idea to soak the food in warm water to make it softer so they can chew it better. I just got my ferret last night, he's so friendly and seeks tons of attention.

My furkids weren't very excited., 7/3/2008

Anna from Naples, FL

I thought because the price was a little higher it would be a nice compliment to zupreem if for some reason they stopped making zupreem. my furkids did not happily eat their food. they were ok with it if it was fed as a treat but reluctantly ate it when mixed with zupreem. I found this purchase a waste of money because my furkids did not respond to it well.

One of the better foods, 4/30/2008

Jessica from Fort Collins, CO

All four of my ferrets love this stuff! Compared to the Marshall's brand, their litter box odor has become extremely better. My only problem is that this food is very expensive at regular pet stores and it has corn and corn products occurring twice. I'm planning on introducing a new food shortly and mixing it with this from now on.

Bad for ferrets, 4/9/2008

Sherri from Trail, BC

Ferrets aren't supposed to have corn. And the first 4 ingredients should be meat(usually can only find 3). But not this food!!! Do not feed this to any ferret!!!!

Not A Healthy Choice, 11/18/2007

Tonya Dunn from Steamboat Springs, CO

My vet has worked personally with the ferret expert in Chicago. According to her studies, the 1st three ingredients on any ferret food source should be protein. Unfortunately there are very few products that meet those guidelines. I would recommend Wysong food for ferrets. Very good for them! It has also been found that the BEST diet to put your ferret on is a live diet. Frozen mice would be a good alternative.

ferrets seem to like it, 8/14/2007

Melissa from Las Vegas, NV

Our little guys seem to like it as their two bowls will be close to empty by the next morning. It does not reduce litter odor though which is my only complaint. Not as high in protein as some of the other foods so I think I may be switching soon for a better over all diet.

Rascal lovvvves it!, 7/6/2007

Melanie from Westbrook, CT

I bought Rascal from a pet store and they recommended Marshalls food. However, after researching the basic diet of ferrets I found they dont typically eat fish, and fish is the second product in Marshalls food. Thus, I switched to Sheppard and Greene because of the high protein content in the form of chicken. Not only did his poo smell much less, but he LOVES Sheppard and Greene. He used to eat Marshalls only when he was absolutely starving, but now he eats several times a day, thanks to Sheppard and Greene.

Hi quality food, 6/27/2007

Pamela from Philadelphia, Pa.

This is the only ferret food with real meat as the first ingredient, rather than a meat byproduct. Its the only brand that all of my ferrets like. Ive never had a problem getting any of my ferrets to eat this food, even if they came from another house and were used to a different brand. Given a choice, my ferrets always choose Sheppard & Greene.

Does what it says, 1/12/2007

Ferret Lady from Philadelphia,Pa.

Ive used every brand of food out there, including the high priced preion feed for my ferrets. This brand of feed is highly palatable for all of my ferrets, especially for the extremely picky eaters. Ive never had a hard time getting them to eat, and they dont dig in the food and waste it. More impressively, on the bag its guaranteed to reduce litter box odor and waste. Amazingly enough, they are right. I noticed a difference in the amount of waste they produce and also in the odor within a day of feeding.

, 8/15/2006

Morgan from Savannah, GA

When I purchased my ferret his cage came with inexpensive ferret food. After reading up on ferrets I decided to purchase a premium ferret food. I read s ingredient and nutrition labels and opted for S&G because of their real meat primary ingredients instead of by-products, high protein content, and low moisture and fiber content. I mixed this new food in with my ferrets old food and he ate all the S&G pieces and left his old food in his bowl. Seeing how much he clearly favored this food and knowing how much more nutritious it is for him made it more than worth it to spend the extra money to purchse higher quality ferret food.
