6 Month Rottie named: HOSS Loves it., 10/19/2012

3 Therapy Dogs from Rolling Meadows, IL

Hoss outgrew his existing 42"x28"x30" crate already - at 6 months. This luxuriously large crate of 54"x37"x45" has him stretched out and sitting tall again. Usually Amazon.com can beat their competitor's prices, but not on this at $144.00 - the add'l oversize charges were to be expected, but even adding those charges on saved me over $40.00 with Amazon, PetSpace, PeTravelCenter, other websites, including Sears. I did my homework and ended up with Dog.com. With the $20.00 online coupon code - Hoss is safe and sound in his new crate. Thanks Dog.Com !!!!

The best crate out there for Great Danes, 6/12/2012

Chris from San Antonio, TX

I absolutely love this crate. I am not sure what the other reviewers are talking about as I can assemble/disassemble this crate alone in less than ten minutes and have had to do so on multiple occasions for cleaning. We have three of these crates for our Danes and they all love them and feel very secure in them. If you need a crate for a GIANT Breed, this is the only way to go. My only suggestion would be to cut something solid (like plexiglass or plywood) to go underneath the plastic pan as it tends to break easily if a heavy (100#+) dog sleeps on it for more than a couple of hours due to the load not being evenly distributed over the hard metal rods that make up the bottom panel.

Great BIG Crate!, 12/23/2011

Debbie from Shelton CT

I bought this crate for my great dane. I have to say that it is everything that I thought it would be. He doesn't have to bend his head in order to get in it- like another crate I bought else where. The size is great and it was very easy to put together. Very happy with my purchase and I know that my dog is too!

Fits all 3 of my dogs!, 8/23/2011

Lab,Boxer,Great Dane MOM from Manchester,MD

I purchased this crate when my great dane was a 60# 4mth old puppy who needed/wanted to be crated with my 75# boxer and 100# lab, It fit all 3 of them with plenty of space!, they now all still fit with the great dane being 27inches at the shoulder and 130# they all sleep curled up together even when not crated. I love how tall it is I can bend over and walk inside of it to retrieve lost toys of blankets. I did not purchase the pan to go with it however I cut a piece of 1/2 inch plywood and put peel and stick linolum tile on it abd then give them blankets, this makes it very easy to clean

Buyer beware, 3/1/2011

2 Great Danes from New York

I purchased this crate along with the pan and divider. The instructions and not very good. We put the crate together and the top was too large meaning the hooks did not engage with the top of the side panels. I contacted the company and they told me to re-assemble the side panels with the sharp hooks on the inside of the kennel [ I put those sharp hooks on the outside to protect my dog] and that would make up the difference in the top panel. The sides of this crate come in 4 sections and they are held together vertically with a long rod in the center of each side. When I questioned the thinking behind buying a crate to protect my dog and putting the sharp hooks on the inside of the crate, I was told that "people complained that they were tearing there clothing" on the sharp hooks when they were on the outside of this crate so the company put them on the inside of the crate. Buyer beware not the crates of old

Not for the strong willed dogs, 1/25/2011

jo from mpls, mn

First i was unhappy with purchase as it states ships within 24hrs...(usually) well mine took over a week & as many phone calls. That said the kennel itself was tricky to put together. Not hard in concept but for one person who is 5ft was not possible. Then my St Bernard puppy hates it & has just about escaped it. So for a large mellow dog be good. Not built for a wild puppy.

Need replacement, 9/18/2010

Kelly S from

I can only imagine how huge this crate is by the size of the pieces. I can see how you would want to assemble it in the room it will stay in. Very good size for tall dogs. My Bordeaux is 9 months old and 110 lbs so he will continue to love it when he is 160 lbs. Unfortunately, I am waiting for a replacement crate as the first one came with half the pieces bent beyond the point of fixing. No instructions so I hope the new one comes with some. This product comes straight from Midwest, not Pet.com, so blame the delivery company if the pieces are bent. Pet.com was excellent in getting me a replacement crate, very helpful and very courteous.

Good, Strong Crate, 2/20/2010

Eddie from

The wires on this crate are very strong, however some still arrived bent out of shape. We had to use pliers on some of them. The crate is HUGE, and is the perfect size for our Great Dane. Assembly was a nightmare! In my opinion, it would be very difficult to assemble with only one person. Also, it would have been somewhat easier if the instructions weren't so horrible! All in all, it is a nice crate. Be sure to assemble with help, and inside of the room that it will be staying in. With economy shipping, it arrived in 3 days!

nice, 10/2/2009

bigdoglover from Texas

This is a very nice well made crate. Double check that the UPS man didn't mess it up. This company stands by their products, the UPS co. abuses the items. Easy to assemble with help. Be sure to add a thin rug under the pan between the crate. Will stop any pan noise when your pet moves around. Give a dane room and I didn't feel guilty for leaving her in it for over 4 hrs. I feel it is very sturdy. I don't know what the other reviews are talking about.

Very useful, 9/29/2009

3DANEMom from Austin, Tx

We couldn't find a crate this large in any pet store or pet specialty store in the area. We feel very comfortable separating the danes when we are not at home. The dogs do not feel claustrophobic. This is a very humane way to crate a dane. We are purchasing additional crates to be installed in the new van so the danes are safe and secure while we travel. The only problem we found is that the crate will not fit through a door. Assemble it where you think it will be permanently. It takes two people to assemble and it goes quickly.

For my Great Dane, 8/3/2009

Michelle from Greensboro, NC

I bought this crate when my great dane was about 4 months old. He was already 50lbs so I knew this would be the only crate that would fit him. When it arrived it was difficult to put together, but it was a great crate for him because of it's size. He is 165lbs and 2 years old now and he still fits! This is a great crate for the larger dogs! I'm not sure why the tray is seperate as nobody would want their dog in a crate without a tray, strange, but whatever.

Surprisingly...bad!?, 7/8/2009

Walt Lingerfelt from Anderson, SC

Have been looking for a good solid crate for a while. I previously used a heavy duty crate manufactured by petsmart that actually worked extremely well; however, they do not make it in a XL size. The mid-west crate looked similar but was I ever wrong. First the box it came in looked like it had been dragged a couple hundred miles on the UPS truck. The metal rungs were so bent I had to use pliers to get the side panels to fit correctly. If you actually tried to follow the instructions (which I do not recommend), they were HORRIBLE. And yes, I recommend more than one person assemble. After finishing, the crate was actually kinda flimsy...not a tight fit at all when compared to my previous crate. Worst of all, doesn't fold. If you plan on traveling w/ the crate, good luck. Hope you had a great time assembling it the first time!

Satisfied Customer, 6/3/2009

Deb from Coal Township, PA

We bought this for our great dane and upon arrival two of the bars were bent near the one corner of the cage. When we opened the pan to go with the cage it was totally broken almost in half. We called customer service and they explained that we could send the crate back for either a refund or a new one - we chose to bend the bars back ourselves rather then send the crate back for a different one but, the pan was destroyed and we could not use that one. They did send us a new replacement pan at no charge and we wanted to send the broken one back but, they said to just throw it away. Because of their handling of the issues we had we would recommend them for others to purchase their crates. They did stand by their products and they did try to make it right. If you do purchase a crate and something is wrong, they will make it right.

Bad Service, 3/4/2009

Nicolette May from Port Republic, MD

Although their prices are low, they advertised the crate with a pan, it did not come with a pan. They told me it was a typo, and I had to buy the pan separtely, which makes the cost of the crate the same as buying it somewhere else.

j krause from W.S,NC

We have a 142.9 lb Great Dane who loves her crate, we have it on carpet with the tray ( to keep the tray from cracking under her weight) She has an orthopedic bed inside and although we seldom lock the door, she goes in of her own accord and carries toys with her to entertain herself while we are at work.. Maddie goes to work too, in her crate. Wonderful to have one huge enough to keep her happy.

Great Product!, 12/18/2007

Kim from British Columbia, Canada

I got this crate today and put it together with absolutely no problem and with no help. I expected a flimsy crate from reading other reviews from previous buyers, however was very pleasantly surprised to see a strong, well made product with a nice heavy gauge wire. The toughest part of the assembly was keeping my great dane out of it while I was putting it together - he loves his new den!

Issues, 8/28/2007

Angela from Dobson

The crates are great and even a very unhappy lab only did minimal damage. The biggest problem Ive had with the two crates in my kennel is the trays, which were damaged in shipping. I realized after assembly that I was missing the latches to hold the trays in, and Ive had two dogs slide the trays out. However, Im buying more. Dogs of all sizes appreciate the space. Assembly was a breeze.

Bad for big dogs, 8/22/2007

So from Atlanta

The larger size crate isnt made any thicker than the tiny size, so the big ones can be bent by a 6 month old puppy or 45 lb adult who isnt happy about being in a crate. I bought 3 and all have to be thrown out after a year.

Great Crate, 4/15/2007

Jesse from Texas

Although the crate is indeed confusing to assemble, djuana is right it is strong. It houses my mastiff no problem and she has plenty of room to move around. Once assembled the crate can be moved fairly easily be separating to two halves, and reassembling them at your new destination. The only reason I dont give the outstanding product the full five stars is I wish the pan was included with crate.

Midwest 1154, 4/12/2007

Lethia from Colorado springs, co

I found the crate fairly simple to set up. I was able to set the crate up alone, and I am a fairly small. I would like for the crate to be a bit more durable as well. The wires seemed to bend easily when I atempted to move it into place. I have a 7 month old great dane, and she is able to easily escape from the crate, by hitting the door till the latches move out of place. I ended up having to get two locking hooks to keep her in. Other then those minor things, I am very happy with the crate.

, 3/21/2007

Djuana from Baltimore,MD

I disagree with the previous review, upon simply glancing at the thing it looks like an impossible assortment of hooks and wire. The instruction booklet that comes along is indeed terrible, almost no pictures and figure the rest out by yourself instructions but once the foundation is settled the crate itself is steadfast, and reliable. As far as the pan goes, Midwest wisley chose not to produce the metal ones because fragments from the pan could get into your dogs claws and when he eats food or bites his fingernails, ingests it slowly poisoning him. The plastic are less durable yes, but significantly safer. if your so concerned about the pan, follow the advice that came with the instructions and place cardboard and blankets beneath or atop it.

this crate is hard to put together and is not nearly as stron or as well made as the midwest collasals I am used to. For the price, I guess they will work.. but I sure miss those metal pans. This plastic junk break immediately.
