My boxer loves this toy. She will push the cube around with her paws for hours, or until all of the food has come out.

Perfect for a chihuahua, 6/17/2010

Chihuahua Mom from

Our Chihauhua gets bored when we're gone during the day, and when he gets bored, he eats carpet. We had a few food toys, and they worked great, but he was getting bored with them and he had figured out all of them, so we purchased two more to help keep him busy. We purchased the small buster cube, and he LOVES it. We have carpeting, and the first day we played with it with him when we were home and he caught on very quickly. We have to put his dog food, and small treats in there for him. If we place just the regular food, he isn't interested. We crumble up a few treats, and he loves to roll the cube and "gamble" to get a yummy treat. When we go to leave the house he just sits and waits for us to put this toy down, and he is playingwith it before we even close the door. Our chihuahua had figured out his old toys, so we purchased this one because it's a puzzle inside which can be made harder. It's working great and we aren't even on the hardest setting yet after two months. Our Chihuahua is 10lbs lean, so it's great for a dog his size.

isn't quite sure of this yet, 5/21/2010

michelle from

my 8 month old beagle mix hasn't quite figured this out yet. i'm sure he'll get it soon. i got it for him to try and get him t eat slower; he wolfs his food and then pukes it back up. he doesn't like that it takes him so long to get fed, but he does get occupied trying to get the food out. i think i like it more than he does.

Great Toy-sorry so long!, 2/2/2010

Lindsay from Orange Beach, AL

Ok. First I would like to say this is a GREAT toy overall, but it is not for everyone. I have three dogs, a min-pin 12lbs.(miniature pincher), a Jack 22lbs, and a boxer-bull mastiff 80lbs. All three love this toy. The small size was fine for my min-pin, and I also bought the larger size for the boxer-bull mastiff(he can chew the small ones). I love how you can adjust the settings to each dog(but it was VERY tricky to figure out how to set the toy from easy to hard- I felt like a dumb-dumb who couldn't operate a dog toy!!! :) It also took some getting "used to" by my dogs as it is VERY, VERY noisy and teaching them how to get the treats. But I found it was easy for them to take to- if they can roll a ball around with you they sure can do this. Make sure you introduce it properly. It is also super hard plastic and I wouldn't use it on wooden or tile floors (carpet, rug, or outside only!!!)first it could damage the hardwoods, and second it doesn't roll like it should as it will just mostly slide. It needs to turn completely over to dispense the treats(they work down through levels). But they just love it and is really good for dogs who are chewers- very resistant. I have substituted meals in this, or just filled it when I left them alone a home. I would say on average it takes up to 15 to 20 minutes of "full attention" play to empty it on hard. I would estimate the small one holds a good 1/4 of a cup of food- give or take- and the food for it must be really small kibbles. I have found the hard ones (their reg. dog food) work best as soft ones can get stuck. But I love it- I leave and don't have to hear the racket of 3 dogs and 3 balls being batted around, and they still play with them even after all the treats are gone.

Buster Food Cube does the trick!, 1/31/2010

Courtney from AZ

We have a very smart and active German Shepherd/Husky mutt who needs a lot of stimulation. While both of us love to take her for walks, play, and to the dog park, we're Doctoral students and need time to work too! We have a couple of other treat dispensers that are soft latex...she enjoys them, but they're both just too easy and she gets through the treats quickly. She is also a chewer, so if there is any teeny tiny imperfection in the latex, she gets to it and rips at it! This toy is much more difficult for her to get to the treats, and the hard plastic and size makes it nearly impossible to chew! (the only reason I say nearly is that our girl is a pretty slick pup and might just find a way)as fast. As an added bonus, when a setting gets too easy, you can change it! The only downside is that the toy can be loud. When she first got to it the noise frightened her and she barked at it, but when I showed her that the sound was made by food, she went to town, batting it all around the apartment! Thank goodness for wall to wall carpeting! I would recommend this toy whole-heartedly as a fun way to feed your pup (if you're worried about extra calories) or to activate their hunting instincts prowling for treats!

loud, but my dog LOVES it, 12/14/2009

Kat from Studio City, CA

I'm a big fan of interactive toys and out of all the other food dispenser toys I've tried, this is the best one for my small dog. It is a bit loud for the homeowner but my dog loves it.

Review of both sizes, 10/16/2009

Megan from California

I purchased 2 of these, the mini for my 8lb chihuahua, and the large for my 25lb whippet mix 9mo puppies. Both my dogs loved them and figured out how to use them quickly. They are extremely durable. My only complaint is that the hole that dispenses the treats/kibble is twice the size on the large cube. When I put canidae kibble (1/4" round) in it and my pup starts playing, it all falls out at once. She'll get 10+ pieces out at once even on the hardest setting. I tried using round treats that were about 3/4" and those worked better, but I really don't want my puppy eating a bunch of junk food treats. The mini is perfect, it only dispenses 1-2 kibble at a time and entertains my pups much longer. The downside to the mini is it doesn't hold as much kibble as the large so if you want to use it to slow down your dog's eating at meal times you have to refill it several times. Overall it was a worthwhile investment

Great product. A bit noisy, 10/12/2009

Anabel from Houston, TX

My 3month old puppy loves this, he won't quit until it's completely empty. Gives him a good 15 minutes of fun and he doesn't gulp down his food. I thought it would be made of rubber but it's actually hard plastic and it was very noisy on our laminate floors. I glued felt pads all over it and now it's just fine.

fun but loud, 10/12/2009

Sara from Smyrna, TN

I got this toy because my dog cries when we leave. I thought it would help keep him quiet. It does occupy him, but the noise from him picking the toy up and throwing it against the ground to get the treats out is even louder than his crying. It is such hard plastic that it may damage wooden flooring when dropped against it.

Keep it on the carpet, 9/22/2009

C H from Maryland

I have a 2 year old lab who absolutely loves this toy. I sometimes use it to feed him his dinner. He will play with it until he knows it is empty. It is made of hard plastic though and it does make a lot of noise on hard wood floors; on carpet it is fine. I had a hard time getting the center piece out. It took about a month of trying but it finally came loose.

Puppy loves it, 9/4/2009

Karen D from Maine

My 5 month old puppy loves this toy! She has been scratching at it, kicking it, stomping on it, barking at it, rolling with it, and licking it. It's kept her entertained for a LONG time now. I wish it was rubbery so that it didn't make so much noise, but all in all, I love it.

Disappointed, 8/7/2009

Kim from Burnsville, NC

This sounds like a wonderful idea and based on a couple of other reviews Ive seen I really thought this toy would keep my dog engaged and stimulated for awhile. Maybe mine isnt working as it should, but its way too difficult to get any treats to come out of the cube. I have trouble getting any out myself! My dog became bored with it almost immediately. The price was a bit high too, but would have been acceptable if the item delivered as promised. Im very disappointed with the product.

Dogs love it! Husband Hates it!, 8/5/2009

LINDA TANNER from Dimondale, MI

I have a labradoodle and a goldendoodle. I also have hardwood floors. Both dogs LOVE this toy. However the noise is so loud my husband absolutely hates it. On carpeting it's perfect. Both of my boys have destroyed every toy they've had. Not this one. If you have carpeting or can tune out the noise this is the greatest. If you can't, either use it outside or find a less noisy toy.

Izzy the Destroyer has yet to fully destroy the fo, 7/10/2009

Liza from Austin Tx

Izzy is a 2.5 yr old lab, and a vivacious chewer. At first she hated the food cube and would bark at it because she was frustrated. Luckily she warmed up to it. The Food Cube has held up pretty well. She was able to break the food cube twist mechanism open. I was able to put it back in, and the funny thing is she clamped down so hard on to the center hole/twist mechanism that she broke it and jammed it in there! The upside is that I am still able to get food into the cube and the twist mechanism is stuck inside. Which is good because I don't have to worry about her pulling it out and eating it. A downside to the toy is that it puts little dents on the doors and lower part of the walls because she power swings her paws to get the food out and it usually goes crashing into something. All in all a great toy that keeps her stimulated for a good 45 minutes and it still intact!

Uninterested, 6/8/2009

Lisa from Maryland

I have a lab and he shows absolutely no interest in this "toy". It is very hard (looks slightly flexible in the picture) and does not slide or roll on carpeting at all. For the owner, it is difficult to fill and adjust. One of the more expensive interactive toys and I wouldn't recommend it.

Kay from Texas

My german shepherd love this toy. He can pick it up by sticking his canaine tooth in the hole. He carries it up the steps from one level to another. He will carry in inside his crate and corner it to turn it. Lazy dog! It is noisy on the floors, but I love to watch him figure it out. So far, it seems to be super durable.

Not for small dogs, 3/30/2009

Anna from Chicago, IL

I bought this to keep my hyper with morkie (maltese/yorkie) busy and to force him to slow down eating his food. He is a little below average in the intellect department but I knew that if it involved anything with food or treats that he would work for it. He really tried to play with it but it slides on my floors and is impossible for him to flip over with his paws or by pushing it with his nose. He got bored with it really quick because the reward for all the work wasn't worth it to him despite being on the easiest difficulty. I would not recommend this to small dog owners because it slides instead of rolls and is too heavy. It is hard to put kiddle in. You should be able to simply take off a side and fill it.

Better than from the bowl, 3/24/2009

Brooklyn from North Dakota

I have a Boston that really doesn't like eating from a bowl. When I first got her I bought a place mat with raised edges and just put food on the mat to get her to eat. I read about the cube and decided to try it. WINNER WINNER!!! I bought the large size and fill it with her daily 1 cup of food, put it next to her toy box and now she finally eats her daily portion of food.

My Shepherd/mastiff mix Leela absolutely loves this toy. I put mostly her regular dry food in it with a couple of teeny chunks of special treat like liver in it and it keeps her occupied for hours. she's really rough with it and smacks it clear across the room and it's lasted 3 weeks and looks good as new.

best buy yet, 12/8/2008

DS from Roswell, GA

Totally indestructible and keeps our Yorkshire Terrier/Poodle mix entertained for hours! Has also really helped us get her to eat when she gets fussy about her food. Something about working for her food really brings out a healthy appetite. Our dog had no trouble figuring out how to work the cube; we just started her on the easiest setting and made it increasingly difficult as she caught on. Seems like the more difficult we make it, the more it holds her attention. Tried other treat dispensing toys, but they dispensed so much food at the slightest touch that she got bored and turned up her nose. So if your dog likes a challenge, then this is the toy for you! The only improvement I would make to this toy is to make it a little easier to take apart for cleaning.

My dog inhales his food at mealtime. I finally found a way to slow him down. Buster, as I call the toy, is amazing. Not only does my dog get exercise, he eats his food slowly. I've bought other toys similar to this one and my dog gets the food out in a matter of seconds. I've reccommended buster to many friends and I reccommend it to you as well.

Get This Toy!!!!!, 5/21/2008

tara from commack, NY

This is an awesome dog toy its my top choice of dog toys. Its durable & chew resistant-- I've had the blue cube for about 2 years now. The dog has to nose or paw the cube around to get the dog treats. This can get kind of noisy--so its best used in a basement or outside. My dog absolutely loves this toy. I usually just put her regular dry food in it. The same dog food that sits in her dish all day is eaten up as soon as it falls out of the cube. The company that makes the toy is fantastic too. I had get a new cylinder because it somehow fell out of the middle (of the toy) and my dog chewed it. The company sent me 2 new ones for free!

TOO LOUD!, 3/5/2008

Mary from Portland, OR

The idea of this toy is great. My dog needs to keep her mind busy so most of her food is given in toys. She's good at them. This toy seems perfect because you can put a lot in it and you choose the difficulty from VERY easy to quite hard. The problem is that it is hard plastic. On linomium or tile it is horribly loud. On carpet it is slightly better. My dog won't play with it because of the noise.

30-minute babysitter!, 1/6/2008

DD from Hammond, LA

I got this for a 3-yr old EXTREMELY active German Shepherd which I rescued. My dog is a chewer but since this has rounded corners he can't chew it. My dog's mouth is big enough to pick up the large cube and carry it around the house. . .I have concrete, tile, and hardwood floors and even though dropped many times on these surfaces, the hard plastic has not cracked or chipped--I have had the cube for about 3 months. The cube holds his interest for as long as kibble comes out--kibble seems to work best--better than soft chews. The only bad thing I can say is that the center tube is supposed to be able to come out for cleaning but I have not been able to get it out--another reason I stick to dry kibble! This also works well if you need to slow down the rate of your dog's eating.

My Aussie and Eskie both LOVE this thing. It is a little noisy on a hard floor, but they are hysterical when they roll it, jump on it and bat it around to roll it over and get the treats out. At the minimum setting the show lasts for about 15 minutes before the cube is empty. It is also great for dogs that gulp their food, as it only dispenses a small amount at a time.
